A New Committee Model

Nominating Committee wants to draw your attention to a committee model using auxiliary helpers who are not committee members. The model provides a way to extend the work of a committee without increasing the demands on committee members. And it provides a way for individuals to be involved in the life of the meeting without serving on a committee. We are not asking for any decision from business meeting.
Religious Education (RE) Committee is a prototype that has for many years been organized into committee members and teachers/helpers. Teachers and helpers are not necessarily committee members. They contribute directly in the classroom and with special projects like Faith & Play or music programs. They usually do not attend committee meetings. Another example is the Tech Support Committee. It has a team of Zoom hosts that may not be committee members, but coordinate with the committee.
The auxiliary group members work to support the plans and goals of the committee without committee membership. Some of us prefer to contribute through hands-on activity, not by serving on a committee or attending its meetings.
For next year, Nominating is organizing several committees along these lines. Hospitality Committee will be smaller but supported by a cadre of individuals who will help with set-up, clean-up, etc. A focused team of garden helpers will support Buildings & Grounds committee in coordination with its goals (i.e., work days, leaf cleanup). Clearing Building and Grounds will use a similar approach.
The committees themselves may choose to use this approach as well. For example, an individual will support Care and Counsel by organizing meal trains as the need arises.

The Photo Board!

The Care & Counsel committee is updating the photo board outside of the community room. If you have a recent photo, no larger than 41/4 square inches of you or you with your family, please give it to Sally Rugg or Charlotte Davenport, or place it in the mailbox for Care & Counsel. Be sure to write name/s on the back in pencil. If you want to be photographed, speak to Sally; and she’ll take your picture. Previous photos will become part of a collage for the library, unless you want yours back.

New Friendly Eights Group

I posted a new open group called, “Hens and Chicks”.  My idea is for women of a certain age, and we know who we are, to get together with those women who haven’t reached that certain age to share stories, generational thoughts.

Friends General Conference–More than just The Gathering

The Friends General Conference is familiar to us as the group that puts on our annual Gathering but they do so much more. They offer virtual activities on many topics for all ages. Currently, there are workshops for white friends confronting racism and worship sharing for people of color. They also offer Spiritual E-retreats, there is one coming up soon. All of these events are either low cost or free.
Are you curious about what is going on in the wider Quaker community? The FGC website provides links to other Quaker organizations such as AFSC, FCNL, The Black Quaker Project and Friends Peace Teams just to mention a few. Let’s not forget books! FGC has an expansive online bookstore, both fiction and non-fiction. Yes, Quakers write murder mysteries.
For more information about all of these projects and much more visit FGCquaker.org.

Aging in Community Support Group

The aging group has one yearly meeting in September and functions autonomously under the care of Care & Counsel. For more information about the group or if you are interested in joining us, contact the current clerk, Carolyn Moul.
